The concept of sending money through the web in itself is nothing new. The incorporation, however, of major banking institutions with cell phones and wireless internet will take online payments to a whole new level. Possible to a whole new level of wireless fraud as well.
You can secure the wireless networks, you can lock the wireless devices from unauthorized users, but you can’t force the industry to abide by the rules. And what rules are there in place for wireless transactions anyway?

[Wireless E911 using GPS Technology]
Ok, so it may be an overstatement in most cases. If any of us in the X or Y generation look back, there are times when we wondered how we ever got things done on time without a cell phone glued to our hands. There were also times when we wished we had a cell phone to guide, help, or rescue ourselves from whatever mess we had gotten ourselves into.
We’ve all heard the stories about a thwarted late night attack thanks to the potential victim’s cell phone. We have all seen people pretending to talk on their cell phones while walking around alone late at night. But what about those are aren’t being attacked, stalked, or held against their will? That would be most of us, right?

Well it seems that the Apple iPhone may not be as big of a success as everyone initially thought. 1,300 random folks were asked if they would purchase Apple’s newest invention and a whopping 6%, or approximately 78 people, said they would.
It seems that the iPhone buzz is surely working as 77% of those 1300 people have already heard of a wireless device that isn’t even slated for release until next month. Just under half, 41% to be exact, said they had a good impression of the device.
Doomed for failure? Not quite, check out the rest of this write-up that Engadget created from the original MacWorld article.

It seems like cell phone carriers on the warpath when it comes to adding new wireless subscribers. Verizon Wireless announced a whopping 1.7 million net subscriber additions for Q1 of 2007 to reach nearly 62 million total wireless subscribers. Other carriers, like AT&T Wireless (formerly Cingular) with a total of 62.2 million subscribers, reported 1.2 million net subscriber additions. If the major national carriers, which include Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile (both will probably report almost a million net subscribers each for the first quarter), continue to rely on hefty numbers of new users, what will happen when the U.S. national market is tapped out?

Our dependency on the RIM Blackberry infrastructure couldn’t be more obvious. As Research in Motion restored service to its North American subscribers, they didn’t want to reveal what exactly caused the April 17th overnight outage. Is RIM adding too many subscribers? Is the Blackberry network not as strong as we expected? Many answers are sought as RIM battles with yet another breakdown.
It doesn’t seem to matter much anymore as wireless users are expecting outages with the seemingly limitless array of data services that are available; some are bound to go down once in a while.
And it’s not like Blackberry network issues themselves are new to the headlines. Go back to February 13th of 2003, when the Blackberry looked like a little pager, and you will see headlines regarding the, in tech-years, historic outage. Check again on June 17th of 2005 and you will find more reports of widespread Blackberry issues.
More information about the recent outage can be found on ABC News.

The advertising industry wasn’t about to let a communications technology slip by without some intervention. Our lives are already saturated with colorful full-page print ads in magazines, cleverly concealed Google Ads on websites, and minute-long beer commercials on TV. And, if you are so inclined, you can even drive around an all-expenses-paid vehicle that is covered in one large advertisement. How else can they possibly advertise to the public?
It’s an easy answer.

Tired of paying for voice turn-by-turn navigation on your phone through TeleNav? Well, now you can get it for free (sorta) if you are a Sprint PCS subscriber, of course.
Sprint recently unveiled plans to give their customers access to the mobile GPS service as part of a new Navigation Vision Data Pack or with two other existing Vision Data Packs. Users who get lost can buy the service for the day for $2.99.
Will other carriers follow Sprint’s lead? Now that data devices are being rolled out with integrated GPS, I’m thinking we should see some other carriers offering some deals with TeleNav or competing products sometime in late ‘07.
Sprint finally did something right for their subscribers post-merger. Let’s see how it impacts their numbers in the current and upcoming quarters.

Let me start over. Has RIM Created the Perfect Blackberry’s?
Only weeks after releasing the highly sought Blackberry 8800 into the eager hands of Cingular customers, word is out that a Blackberry 8820 and other Blackberry 8300 variations are already planned. I think RIM finally got the hint. People want Blackberry’s.
Who could blame us? We don’t need a 5 megapixel camera. We don’t need something smaller than a credit card. We need something that works. Something that works well, even. They don’t call it a Crackberry for nothing.

Heads are spinning at Vonage Holdings. No, it’s not because of all the V’s in the title. $58M may soon be pulled from the company’s holdings along with 5.5% of all future revenues obtained through the use of the “infringed” VoIP patents supposedly held by Verizon.
Back in the summer of 2006, Verizon felt threatened unfairly targeted by Vonage and it’s use of supposedly VoIP patents. Verizon began to start up their own VoIP service in 2004. Vonage began their commercialized service in 2001.
How convenient.
